The primary hazard from trenching and excavation is employee injury from collapse. Soil Analysis is important in order to determine appropriate sloping, benching, and shoring options. Additional hazards include working with heavy machinery; manual handling of materials; working in proximity to traffic; electrical hazards from overhead and underground power lines; and underground utilities like natural gas. This in-depth course is designed to instruct the worker, per OSHAs 29 CFR 1926.650 standard, on the various hazards associated with this type of work, as well as instruct the worker on the proper procedures and controls to ensure safe work practices.
